Bridging the Tech Divide Goes Beyond Computers

NERDiT CARES provides communities with technology, skills, and support.

We connect people to technology and free, high-quality technology training. We do that by donating devices to the community AND by making learning fun again.

If you have an interest in learning real-world technology skills, we have an interest in helping you do it.

Providing Devices and Skills since 2016

When much is given, much is expected. NERDiT lives by that philosophy every day. We have been fortunate enough to build a strong tech repair and recycling business in the Wilmington area. We want to give back to the community that has given so much to us. With that in mind, NERDiT staff set about designing a workforce development program that would provide high-quality training to underserved communities.

When NERDiT’s founder, Markevis Gideon, was given an old computer in 8th grade to take apart and repair, he fell in love with technology. Markevis is naturally an entrepreneur and knew that he would use that experience to build his own business with the idea to pay it forward to his Wilmington community. NERDiT NOW started as a small repair shop in a small hut. It continued growing, adding three spaces for retail, recycling, and workforce development. Employees were hired and trained, some having no background in technology.

    No Prior Experience, Just Motivation

Do you have a passion for learning anything? Do you want to learn more about technology? Are you open to new experiences that push you out of your comfort zone? You don’t have to be an expert in technology to take advantage of these two opportunities. Using strategies that accelerate learning, build strong habits, grow self-confidence, and make learning fun again, we help non-technical students become technical support specialists. Your job is to show up excited to learn every day!

    Opportunities for
    Community

We conduct free, three-month, intensive training programs that will prepare students for the CompTIA IT Fundamentals, CompTIA A+, and AWS Cloud Practitioner certifications. Achieve those certifications, and move on to registering for NERDiT’s IT Apprenticeship. It lasts up to 12 months and apprentices earn four more industry-standard IT certifications. All training is paid for and free to students!

    Stipend & Wages
    Paid

Again — all training is free! In fact, you get paid to learn!

    • Pre-apprenticeship — $100 weekly stipend earned during the 3-month, intensive training
    • Apprenticeship — A wage of $12.40/hour earned during the IT apprenticeship. The wage increases with each certification gained.

NERDiT CARES works to get computing devices to the people who need them most.

Over the past 5 years, we have donated over 7500 devices and counting. In many cases, a computer from NERDiT is the first a family has been able to own. We work with community organizations and directly with families. Request a donation below to join our waitlist on behalf of an individual, family, or organization who needs our support.
